Venti: 4 Fourteen

Special post as my cafe series hits 20! I never realised Venti meant "20", Starbucks use it as one of their sizes meaning "Large"... anyway, today's one is technically not a cafe, but we did have coffee after our meal, so I'll just make this an exception.

Most of the photos turned out blurry though, I don't know enough about cameras to take good photos in the dark. Stanley is supposed to be made to take good photos in the dark though, so... hm... might need a crash course with my brother some time.

This is "The Fireball"- lemon, orange, fig, fireball cinnamon whisky. Of course, I didn't drink most of this, S, who can hold her alcohol, did.

Chicken wing! Parfait, Tortilla and Apple Chutney... it's so interesting, they've all been deboned.

From 122___09
Love eating chicken wings, especially the ones from KFC... these are like fancy KFC wings, with extras. Apple chutney really goes well with fried crispy meat, like this chicken wing... and pork belly...

Crumbed Pigs Ears and some sort of terrine. It's annoying because the menu on their website has some changes since we visited, which was 3 months ago, so I can't go there to get menu descriptions...

I was intrigued by their pig's ears, having only eaten those made Asian style, ie as a cold entree and pickled, or in a salad. Crumbed and deep fried... they were interesting, but you definitely don't get that unique texture pig's ears offer in this form...

Pig's tail. Another interesting dish, there were bones in this one, which you can spit out and assemble into the skeleton of a pig's tail on your plate if you fancied playing with your food.

Inside of the pig's tail. I didn't particularly like this dish actually... too many little bits of bones and the meat is really just... normal... quite sinewy as you can see..

Side dish of Orange and Ginger Carrots with Cumin and Yoghurt. I like carrots, but perhaps getting carrots at a place like 4 Fourteen isn't exactly the best value dish you can order. However, just like Cafe Jolly's chilli cheese honey bread, this one is easy to replicate at home- orange juice, ginger, carrots. Doneskies. Good idea too.

The star of the night: Roast Pork with apple colcannon and pickled cabbage. That apple... look at it, just waiting to be eaten.

From 122___09
What it comes with- the colcannon. According to wiki, "Colcannon (Irish: cál ceannann, meaning "white-headed cabbage") is a traditional Irish dish mainly consisting of mashed potatoes with kale or cabbage"

Apple sauce!

Look at that crackle. This was quite undoubtedly the best dish on the table. Garnered lots of attention too, from surrounding tables and guests. Previous reviews I've read about this dish wasn't impressive, saying it's dry with little jus, but hey, look at that. We were perfectly happy with our roast pork :D

Dessert time was great... everything looked so good on the menu, we practically ordered the lot. The thing about going with a big group of friends is that there is no pressure to finish one dish by yourself, reserving no room for dessert. We had plenty of room left~ so onwards to dessert and coffee!

Dessert comes with an ice cream sandwich first~ doesn't that look like a beautiful slab of butter that you just want to eat straight? XD Yum. Really reminds me of those chunks of ice cream Singapore/ Malaysia sells, where an uncle will cut you a slice, sandwich it with two wafer thins, and it only costs $1.

Some sort of brownie with jersey milk ice cream? It was probably the least memorable out of all the desserts, but the jersey milk ice cream was good.

Bounty deconstruct!

From 122___09
This was soooo good. It's actually ice cream rolled in cocoa powder. Really liked this dessert dish. Coconut flakes stewed across the plate, with creamy balls and chocolate.

Eton Mess. Yea, we're not done yet... I didn't realise we actually ordered so much food. Think most of our cafe buddies KO'd at this point, whereas S and I were still going strong on the desserts and finished most of it.

From 122___09
Simply cannot get enough of that Bounty dessert.

From 122___09
At the end of our meal, we were given complimentary macadamias coated with chocolate.

From 122___09
A coffee to finish off a good meal. I think that might have been my cappucino, though yes, technically you're not meant to have a cappucino after 11am. Just not done in Italy I think. What, I'm allowed to break social norms *rebel*.

From 122___09
Coffee~ S is doing it right.

From 122___09
Quirky interior designs. There was a motobike right inside the restaurant, along with jacket hooks.

From 122___09
A fluro orange bench outside with a fluro green bike. There's the number to call :D Book now~ do take note that price is quite steep, and it's best to go with a group of friends to share the bigger dishes (and the cost!).

Sorry, I realise I stopped typing as much towards the end and just posted pics.... it's late and I'm sleepy... off to see my hamsters, goodnight.

Ah nice, good to see the log catching up.

Hmm I thought cappuccino was an evening drink so ok after 11am where as espresso should be before.

Other way! Italians only drink milk based coffee like latte and capps in the morning, never after a meal or in the evening. That's when the espresso comes in.
